FAQ: all your questions answered

What do you mean by industry?

What happens behind the series: publishing houses, serialization magazines, reading platforms, print runs, sales figures, acquisitions and licence moves.

Where do your figures come from?

From publisher press releases, annual reports and official charts. Every figure is tied to its source, and we state the period it covers.

What does a print run announced by a publisher mean?

The number of copies printed, digital copies included when the publisher adds them in, not the number of copies sold. We use the exact word from the source, and point out the difference whenever it changes how the figure should be read.

Do you track licence moves and acquisitions?

Yes, as soon as they are official: a series changing publisher, a platform entering a market, a house being bought. We say what the change means for readers, and what stays the same.

Do you publish estimates when a figure is missing?

No. With no official figure, we write that there is none, and where useful quote an estimate as an estimate, naming who made it. No figure on this site is our own invention.
